What is a digital sewing pack?

In a Haystack’s digital sewing packs, are carefully curated collections of sewing treats and curiosities sent straight to your inbox every month. They’re a fun way for you to discover great sewing patterns, fabric and independent creative businesses. The packs are designed to inspire your makes and spark your curiosity about the fascinating world of slow fashion and textiles.

You might like to think of the ‘haystack pack’ as a bit like a sewing subscription box, but digital. Since they’re digital, they’re flexible. You choose your fabric, you choose if you want to read the pack or listen to it, and you choose your pattern from the featured designer’s collection.

Each pack includes a PDF pattern from an independent pattern designer, discount codes for independent fabric shops in both Europe and North America, interviews, tips & tricks, and other sewing-related goodies and knowledge. Each pack is based around a theme which, as a researcher, I love exploring for the packs.

You can read more about the packs here.

How does this all work?

I send you monthly sewing surprises straight to your inbox! When you subscribe to the packs you’re charged on the first day of each month. You’ll get your pack on the third day of each month. This will continue until you pause or cancel your subscription, which you can do easily at any time from inahaystack.co.uk/my-account.

Your pack will arrive in your email inbox. You are very welcome to join our online community to share your makes and be inspired by others using the Instagram hashtag #HaystackPack.

What if I can’t or don’t want to read the pack?

There’s an audio version!

How much does it cost and how can I pay?

Packs costs £10 a month, or the equivalent in your currency. You can buy one from the shop page of this website. Gift subscriptions are also available.

When will I get my pack?

All packs are sent on the third day of the month.

If you sign up between the second and final day of the month, you will get your first pack on the third day of the following month. If you sign up before subscriptions close on the first day of the month, you will get your first pack a couple of days later.

What kind of patterns are in the packs?

The patterns are for garments and are created by independent designers. Patterns for lots of different types of garments will be included in the packs. Have a look here to see some of the patterns that have been featured.

What sizes are the patterns?

Patterns go up to approximately bust or hip 50 inches, with preferential treatment given to pattern designers with a broader size range. I hope to widen this size range as more and more independent pattern designers widen theirs.

What if I already own the pattern?

You can almost always swap it! This is up to the pattern designer, and almost all of them welcome you to choose another of their patterns if you already own the one featured in the pack, or if you just fancy another one.

Can I subscribe to the packs if I live outside the UK?

Yes! There are featured fabric shops based in North America. The pack is digital so you just need an email address.

Where does the name ‘In a Haystack’ come from?

If you’ve heard the expression ‘needle in a haystack’, you’ll know it refers to finding a small shiny needle in a mass of hay. Our packs are a bit like that – helping you to discover great independent products and small businesses in a world full of fashion.

How can I meet other people who have joined the pack?

You can join our private Facebook group where we share makes, hauls and plans. Find the link to that at the bottom of each haystack pack. You can also find us through the #HaystackPack hashtag on Instagram.

How can I save my pack as a PDF (to store or print)?

On a computer, open your pack email in Chrome. At the top left of the screen, click ‘view this email in your browser’. Right click on the page and select ‘print’. Choose ‘save as PDF’ from the ‘destination’ drop down menu. Click save and enjoy!

What should I do if my pack has not arrived or if I have any problems?

If you haven’t already done so, please check your junk folder in case the pack got caught there. If you still can’t find it or have any other problems please email kate @ inahaystack.co.uk and I will do my best to help.

Can I buy a pack as a gift?

Yes! You can get 3 months, 6 months or an ongoing gift subscription as gifts. You can find out more about how gift subscriptions work here.

How can I change or cancel my subscription?

You can easily pause, cancel and rejoin the pack any time you like.

Go to inahaystack.co.uk/my-account and log in using the email address you signed up with. Then go to ‘my subscriptions’, click ‘view’ next to your ‘related orders’. Then click ‘view’ under ‘related subscriptions’, followed by ‘cancel’.

You can always use the ‘reactivate’ button if you change your mind! If you have any problems, feel free to get in touch.

I always aim to make the packs as good as they can be so I would really value your feedback about why you chose to leave. If you would like to tell me, please email kate@inahaystack.co.uk or use the contact form here.

How can I offer my sewing pattern, fabric or product for the packs?
